Awareness Meditation (Sushumna Meditation)

You can do this meditation many times throughout the day if you like to help build focus and concentration and return yourself to a state of awareness.

  • Sit up with your eyes closed.
  • Put your attention on both nostrils.
  • When you put the attention on the two nostrils, you are balancing your breath energy so that the breath goes into the Central Nadi or the Sushumna.
  • Putting attention on both nostrils will help balance the breath so that both nostrils are open, which also helps balance the brain’s hemispheres.
  • Once both nostrils feel open, take your attention to the base of the spine.
  • See a fine tube of light rising the spine, through each of the 7 Chakras starting at the root….slowly move up from the 1st Chakra to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th….really allow your awareness to be pulled into that tube running up the spine.
  • Once at the 7th Chakra, let the tube pierce the top of the head and see that fine tube of light going straight up into the space.
  • Hold your focus on that tube…let your awareness be in that tube extending from the spine through to the top of the head and beyond.
  • Just sit in silence in that for 30 seconds or as long as you can hold it
  • If your mind drifts….gently pull it back…..
  • Relax….
